Rapid Degradation of Cellulose Diacetate by Marine Microbes

چکیده

The persistence of cellulose diacetate (CDA), a biobased plastic used in textiles and single-use consumer products, the ocean is currently unknown. Here, we probe disintegration degradation CDA-based materials (25 μm films, 510 foam, 97 g/m2 fabric) by marine microbes continuous flow seawater mesocosm. Photographic evidence mass loss measurements demonstrate that disintegrate months. Disintegration marked increasing esterase cellulase activity biofilm community, suggesting degrade CDA. natural abundance stable (13C) radiocarbon (14C) isotopic signature carbon dioxide respired during short-term bottle incubations confirms rapid both acetyl cellulosic components CDA microbial communities. These findings challenge paradigm set governmental agencies advocacy groups persist for decades, represent positive step toward identifying high-utility, plastics with low environmental persistence.

Cellulose degradation by oxidative enzymes

Enzymatic degradation of plant biomass has attracted intensive research interest for the production of economically viable biofuels. Here we present an overview of the recent findings on biocatalysts implicated in the oxidative cleavage of cellulose, including polysaccharide monooxygenases (PMOs or LPMOs which stands for lytic PMOs), cellobiose dehydrogenases (CDHs) and members of carbohydrate-...

Enhancement of Cellulose Degradation by Cattle Saliva

Saccharification of cellulose is a promising technique for producing alternative source of energy. However, the efficiency of conversion of cellulose into soluble sugar using any currently available methodology is too low for industrial application. Many additives, such as surfactants, have been shown to enhance the efficiency of cellulose-to-sugar conversion. In this study, we have examined fi...

Application of cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose degradation by beta-glucosidase and vaginal microbes to toxic shock syndrome.

Eleven bacterial and two yeast strains, four of which were previously identified as having activity on a lightly cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose (CLD-2) found in one type of superabsorbent tampon, were grown on a variety of substrates, most containing cellulosics. None produced detectable amounts of cellulases, but all elaborated beta-glucosidase. None of these 13 strains nor 3 commerciall...

Rapid Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles by a Marine-derived Fungus Aspergillus Niger and their Antimicrobial Potentials

Recently, biosynthesis of nanoparticles has received attention due to an increasing need of developing rapid, simple and ecofriendly protocol. Pathogenicity of some of the organisms and lengthy reaction are the drawbacks involved with biosynthesis. We describe a simple protocol for rapid synthesis of silver nanoparticles through biological route using a marine-derived fungus Aspergillus niger. ...

Cellulose degradation by cellulose-clearing and non-cellulose-clearing brown-rot fungi.

Cellulose degradation by four cellulose-clearing brown-rot fungi in the Coniophoraceae-Coniophora prasinoides, C. puteana, Leucogyrophana arizonica, and L. olivascens-is compared with that of a non-cellulose-clearing brown-rot fungus, Poria placenta. The cellulose- and the non-cellulose-clearing brown-rot fungi apparently employ similar mechanisms to depolymerize cellulose; most likely a nonenz...
